Cellar Door

"A famous linguist once said that of all the phrases in the English language, of all the endless combinations of words, that cellar door was the most beautiful."
(Ms. Pomeroy at Donnie Darko, 2001).

Hi Mer -- you know, it just might be true. I first heard that claim decades ago, and I have to say, I've never come up with a smoother, more "flowing" phrase. I just did a little checking online, and someone thinks it might have been Tolkien or Poe who said it first, but I have no idea. That same blogger mentioned that the Italian phrase for "sky of gold" sounds a lot like "cellar door" -- Cielo de Oro.

Yes, Dave. Two days ago was my first time hearing/reading that phrase (from Donnie Darko movie I mentioned). It really caught my attention. So flowing and beautiful.
Cielo de Oro, that sounds beautiful too. But I like Cellar Door more.
